Hearing the Unheard (HTU), Registration Number: 00NGO/R/9236, is a youth-led, registered non-governmental organization founded in 2023 to address the systemic exclusion of deaf children and youth in Tanzania.

Across the country, deaf learners face multiple barriers: limited access to quality education in Tanzanian Sign Language (TSL), social stigma, a shortage of trained teachers, lack of assistive and digital learning tools, and minimal access to healthcare. These challenges result in high dropout rates, low literacy, and restricted social and economic participation

HTU was established to bridge these gaps by empowering deaf learners through inclusive education, accessible health programs, community engagement, and social connection initiatives. Our mission is to ensure that deaf voices are not only heard but valued and fully included in society.
